*Black Doves* sends glad tidings and yuletide espionage.
Netflix's Christmas-set spy thriller debuted to a rapturous reception as the snow fell in late 2024, with **'s critic calling it a "remarkably fresh, exciting, and laugh-out-loud funny caper."
Keira Knightley leads the ensemble as Helen Webb, the wife of a British politician who moonlights as an agent for the Black Doves, a secretive spy organization. Season 1 saw Helen get swept up in a multi-pronged conspiracy with geopolitical implications after the assassination of her lover puts her in the crosshairs.
"[The] bloody, satisfying final hour sets up a series of new challenges for our antiheroes," we noted in our review while crossing our fingers for a second season.
So, will there be a season 2 of *Black Doves*? If so, what peril will Helen be forced to navigate next? Here's everything we know about *Black Doves* season 2.**

Yes, *Black Doves* was renewed for a second season before its premiere in December 2024.**
"I couldn’t be more excited to delve back into the world of our murderous little spy family," said creator and writer Joe Barton in a statement. "To have so many [members] of our amazing cast returning and also being able to add some of my absolute favorite actors into the mix is such a great joy. Downing Street will never be the same."**
How did Black Doves season 1 end?

Ben Whishaw as Sam on 'Black Doves'.

Early in season 1, Helen teams with her pal Sam (Ben Whishaw), a hitman and fixer, to help discover who murdered Jason (Andrew Koji), her secret lover. Over the course of the season, we learn that Jason was an MI5 agent investigating Helen, but he developed true feelings for her that led him to try and clear her name before he was murdered.
So, who killed Jason? It was Trent (Angus Cooper), the son of London crime boss Alex Clark (Tracey Ullman). Why? Well, that's a bit complex and involves the death of the Chinese ambassador to the U.K.
It goes like this: Trent was in love with the ambassador's daughter and plying her with drugs. When the ambassador confronted Trent about the drugs, Trent pushed him too hard. Desperate to cover his tracks, he set about having anyone who could know about the death assassinated. That included Jason, who possessed footage of the accidental murder.
That footage, it turns out, also implicates the police commissioner and the prime minister in the coverup, exposing them as being beholden to the Clarks. The commissioner tampered with the crime scene to make it look as if the ambassador died of a drug overdose before calling the prime minister to fill him in. It's corruption from top to bottom.
Helen and Sam learn all of this during a confrontation with Alex, which ends with Sam killing both Alex and Trent. The blowback from those murders will undoubtedly carry over into season 2.
The ending also sets the stage for a new Prime Minister to take power, and it's none other than Wallace (Andrew Buchan), Helen's husband.**
What is Black Doves season 2 about?

Sarah Lancashire as Reed and Ben Whishaw as Sam on 'Black Doves'.
*Black Doves* season 2 will begin with Helen doing what she does best — leaking government secrets to the Black Doves. But, as the season 2 synopsis points out, "she is walking a more treacherous line than ever" now that her husband is gearing up to become prime minister.
But trouble is afoot within the Black Doves, specifically as it pertains to matriarch Mrs. Reed (Sarah Lancashire). "As Helen’s enigmatic handler Mrs. Reed is ensnared in a ruthless plot to undermine her position in the Black Doves, Helen is reunited with her best friend Sam," continues the synopsis. "The once high-end triggerman is now reduced to lonely drinks in Soho bars and low-rate hits. As they search for answers, loyalties are weaponized, trust is shattered, and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything. With all the explosive wit of Series 1, Helen and Sam’s mission leads them back to old friends and enemies, through the dark decisions and painful sacrifices of their pasts, and right to the heart of the Black Doves."
What else can you expect from season 2? A new adversary. "One of the things I felt watching the first series was that Sam and Helen, they don’t really [have] a Moriarty. They don’t have the big bad," Barton told the *Hollywood Reporter* in December 2024. "One of the things I think would be really fun to do is actually to give them a proper onscreen antagonist, a proper villain for them to have to deal with. So that’s big on my list of things for series two."**
