- *House of the Dragon* and *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* are both renewed for more seasons.

- HBO confirmed each year through 2028 will have more *Game of Thrones*.

- Despite past showrunner comments, the network is not officially using "final season" language for *House of the Dragon* season 4 at this time.

While 2025 ended up being *Game of Thrones*-less, we're officially getting more Westeros-set medieval drama every year through 2028, starting in 2026.

*House of the Dragon* season 4 and *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* season 2 are both now a go. HBO announced renewal news for each of the *Game of Thrones* spinoff dramas on Thursday during a press presentation in New York City.

Worth noting is that HBO is not officially distinguishing *House of the Dragon* season 4 as the show's final season; however, showrunner Ryan Condal previously confirmed that he envisioned four seasons to chronicle the events of the bloody Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.

Following the renewal news in a Q&A session with press at the New York event, HBO CEO Casey Bloys commented on that topic. "We generally try to leave it to the creators to make that decision," he said of when to end series, confirming there's no update on that front for the series.

Simultaneously, the network confirmed that *House of the Dragon* season 3 will premiere sometime next summer. Season 4 is now planned for 2028, while *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* season 2 is scheduled in between for 2027.

"We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the *Game of Thrones* universe," Francesca Orsi, the executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of HBO Drama Series and Films, said in a prepared statement. "Together, *House of the Dragon* and *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be."

*A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*, based on Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas, will premiere on Jan. 18. Orsi teased an "inspiring underdog tale," while calling the impending third season of the Targaryen civil war as having "some of its most epic battles yet."

Set years after the events of *House of the Dragon* and just over 50 years after the death of the last dragon in Westeros, *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* follows the story of Dunk (Peter Claffey), a squire to a recently deceased hedge knight. To earn some coin, he sets out to compete in a local tourney with his master's sword and armor. Along the way, he encounters a young bald-headed boy named Egg, who's determined to now squire for Dunk.

Ira Parker heads the new series as showrunner and co-creator. Ahead of New York Comic Con last October, Parker teased to ** what's in store with season 1, which adapts the events of Martin's first novella "The Hedge Knight." Season 2 will now adapt the events of the second, "The Sworn Sword."

Regarding *House of the Dragon* season 3, Condal previously told EW it's "our biggest season to date." He also promised "the people that were waiting and waiting for all of the horrible, brutal, pitiless bloodshed will be getting it in copious amounts.” **

Earlier at the press event, which previewed HBO's 2026 offerings, renewals were confirmed for second seasons of Mark Ruffalo-led crime drama *Task*, as well as comedies *The Chair Company* and *I Love LA*. Genndy Tartakovsky's adult animated series *Primal* will also return for season 3 this Jan. 11.
