This one is pretty simple: His father was the iconic "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin. After Steve's untimely and heartbreaking death, Terri, Bindi and Robert continued in his mission to care for animals Down Under with the Australia Zoo. They also starred in the short-lived reality TV seriesCrikey! It's the Irwins.
“No desk job for me. I’d rather play with crocodiles all day,” Robert told PEOPLE in 2025. Or be surfing, skydiving, skateboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing ... I think it’s the Irwin genetics. I was just born to be wild.”

The Australia Zoo were the biggest beneficiaries from Steve Irwin's estate.
“Everything was reinvested into conservation work,” Terri told the Australian Financial Review. “I was in debt … and Steve’s life insurance, I think, was the sum total of $200,000, ($130,541 USD) which didn’t even cover half of one week’s payroll.”
Thankfully, Terri added, Steve had a 10-year business plan, so their conservation work could continue nearly two decades after his death.
