The magical world of *Witch Hat Atelier* is finally making the jump from page to screen.

More than a year after unveiling the first sneak peek at the highly anticipated manga adaptation, Crunchyroll and Bug Films have not only dropped a new teaser trailer but revealed that the series is set to premiere in April 2026.

For the uninitiated, *Witch Hat Atelier* follows a young girl named Coco on her journey to become a witch in a world where magic is an innate skill. After encountering the mysterious magician Qifrey, everything she thinks she understands about magic is brought into question — and Coco's life is forever changed.

She soon learns that magic is created through drawing and is taken under Qifrey's wing in an effort to curb her own magical abilities and help stop the Brimmed Caps, a group known for practicing forbidden magic. The manga series, written and illustrated by Kamome Shirahama, began in 2016 and has sold more than 7 million copies to date.

The lavishly animated adaptation hails from director Ayumu Watanabe, who previously helmed such titles as *Summer Time Rendering*, *Komi Can’t Communicate*, and *After the Rain*. Meanwhile, series composition is being done by Hiroshi Seko, whose résumé includes *Vinland Saga*, *Dandadan*, *Chainsaw Man*, and more. The series also features character designs from Kairi Unabara (*The Invisible Man*) and music by *Elden Ring *composer Yuka Kitamura.

The trailer sees Coco (voiced by *Betrothed to My Sister's Ex *alum Rena Motomura), living out her everyday life in a world where most take the wonders of magic for granted. Even as a young girl, she can't help but marvel at all that magic can create.

"When I grow up, I'm gonna be a witch that makes our world vibrant," she declares.

Things, however, take a turn when Coco finally does try her hand at drawing spells — only to make a horrible mistake that she will furiously try to undo. The trailer also offers a glimpse of her introduction to Qifrey (voiced by *Demon Slaye*r's Tanjiro, Natsuki Hanae), who warns her about the dangers of magic before crowning Coco with her very own pointed hat.**

Of voicing the mysterious witch, Hanae said in a statement, "I am honored to portray Qifrey, an important character whose gentle gaze carries a hint of melancholy and who possesses a mysterious atmosphere. The fantastical and beautiful world envisioned by Shirahama-sensei has become a stunning animation under director Watanabe's direction.”

Added Motomura, "Turning each page brought back memories of my childhood's small daily events and the longing I felt for my dreams. I identified with Coco and became completely absorbed. The moment I got the role, I was so happy that tears welled up before I could even speak...I gave my all to portray Coco. I hope it reaches as many people as possible."

*Witch Hat Atelier* was originally announced in April 2022 and slated for a 2025 release only to be delayed to next year. When announcing the news last month, Bug Films said the delay was needed "in order to deliver the series with the highest possible quality and to fully showcase its charm."
